Eyal Goldshmid: Make sure all programs are closed before shutting down computer
16.03.10
Q. Lately, when I cut off b separate down, I receive a window titled “End Program.” In it are two boxes that I can click: “End Now” or “Cross.” The top of the window reads: “ACROBAT HELPER.” I have to click either box several times before the window clears and I am gifted to shut down. Is there anything I can do to correct this?

A. Often messages like this show when you leave programs open during the shutdown process. Try closing all programs before shutting down and seeing if that makes a dissension.
If not, it could be that Acrobat Reader is trying to perform an update but can’t seem to complete the process successfully — thus hanging the shutdown deal with.
If that’s the case, then it may be best to update Acrobat Reader completely, for fear that the existing portrayal may be corrupt or conflicting with something else on your system.
First, remove the existing version. Click Start, then Control Panel, then Add/Transfer Programs (or Uninstall a Program, if using Vista or later), find Adobe Acrobat Reader in the slate that appears, highlight it and click the Remove or Uninstall button.
