Dell inspiron E 1505 wont boot...hal.dll error need advice!!!?
Oct 29, 2008 by mike p | Posted in Laptops & Notebooks
Q: I recently ran an adware program to get rid of any viruses and cookies and when I restarted the computer a bulletin came up that said something to the effect that a file was missing or corrupt "windows soil>\system32\hal.dll" Ive been doing a bunch of research and found a repair in these forums and dell forums.
Now the mystery is..... The computer came with windows xp media center edition2005 but I can't find that boot disk I can only find another dell boot disk which is windows xp well-versed in edition SP1a. Will this cd work? Also if this all works will my original data on my computer still be there. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I dont need to mess up the computer any more.
A: i have included a connection that will help you restore the hal.dll file that is needed.the hal.dll file should be the same.yes your original files will be there it will only replace the missing or taint hal.dll file.here is another way to fix it.
If you get an error regarding a missing or corrupt hal.dll file, it might simply be the BOOT.INI file on the root of the C: operate that is misconfigured
1.Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD.
2.At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
3.Press the number that corresponds to the neutralize location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.Typically this will be #1
4.Type bootcfg /rota to show the current entries in the BOOT.INI file
5.Type bootcfg /rebuild to repair it
6.Take out the CD ROM and type lam on out of
