windows xp hal dll error ?

Q: I cant start my computer !
I had it tournament fine last night and turned it off.
I tried to turn it on and it wont turn on

it keeps saying my "<windows fountain-head>\system32\hal.dll is corrupt or missing"
How can i fix it ?
I have Windows xp home edition

I have both the Windows xp CD but i dont want to erase everything
I also have a USB take off drive if it helps..

Please give me a solution and detailed steps. Im not very good with computers. Please explain EACH have. Even what buttons to push on start up, how to start the cd during start up, etc.

You'll need your windows cd to start setup and repair/replace HAL.dll :)
