registry edit?

Q: Hi I reasonable recently came across a few infected files in my registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) and luckily i had a program tht deleted them for me. but i had a difficulty. When i look on there i see alot of folders for old games and stuff i dont play anymore such as "popcap" and "realVNC" if i dont use them anymore and there uninstalled is it ok for me to cut those files? if not can u tell me what i CAN do and if deleting tht stuff will speed up my pc etc?

I am unable to edit my registry. WHen i try to it says "REgistry editing has been disabled my administrator. ?

Q: HOw do i OK registry editing? I am using Windows XP.
A: Log in with the administrator's account. If you do not have access to it, then you shouldn't be editing the registry anyways.
