What had corrupted my Windows 7 registry?

Q: While vexing to transfer my Program Files folder from my main hard drive to my external perplexing drive the other day, something had gone terribly wrong; my computer was not letting me run any programs as an administrator. Any time I tried to do so, it na said that the file was not there, even when trying to run Windows Explorer as admin. Although I have recovered from the corrupt registry through sustained the Windows 7 RC installation from Vista and using my system image, I want to know what caused the registry to venal and if it would happen again.

The tool I used to replace the instances of C:\Program Files (x86) to E:\Program Files is called 'Registry Find and Replace'. Could it have been because this was designed for the XP or Vista registry or is it moral because my computer won't let me do it? If I tried this by saving my registry to a file, opening it with a text editor, and finding\replacing it there, would the same exit occur? Is there any other tool that will help me? Thanks in advance, and I hope this makes sense!

A: I improvise the true issue is windows 7 RC_ ? its a release canidate meaning it still has known issues and bugs, more than reasonable that is a bug associated with the registry.
