Q: what is a wholesome registry cleaner to use and is it safe
A: Messing with the Registry ALWAYS carries a imperil with it...even with a great software like CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/
or TweakNow RegCleaner: http://www.tweaknow.com/RegCleaner.html< br />
While using a program like that you MUST proceed towards double sure that you are ONLY deleting files from the Registry that you KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt belong to programs that you have uninstalled from the computer using the Add and Wipe Programs Utility or the special Uninstaller for certain programs like Norton AV.
If you run into an entrance that you don't know or are not sure of then write it down EXACTLY as it appears in the program that found it, leave it there and when you get the first chance to do so look it up in your search locomotive (E.G.: Yahoo Search, Google Search, etc.) to find out what it is for sure and if it is safe or not safe to delete.
That said, there are other things that can bog down the dart of a computer. Make sure your Anti-malware programs are UPDATED and ran at least every week. I do mine every day I get on the internet decent before I shut off my computer.
It is best to run cleaners and anti-malware scans in Safe Mode. It is also most successfully to run ScanDisk before Defragging, both being done in Safe Mode as well.
Once the computer is Cleaned, Dis-infected or checked to make secure it has no mal-ware, ScanDisked, Defragged all in Safe Mode then set ScanDisk to run automatically at the next boot-up and re-boot into Official Mode. Allow ScanDisk to run then immediately manually set a new Restore Point with a Clean and Tuned-up computer.
I foresee this helps. Good Luck!
